Lou Dobbs, the controversial conservative television host who loomed large over the cable news landscape for decades, died on Thursday.

Dobbs, a veteran broadcast journalist who helped launch CNN and later became an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump, was 78.

The cause of death was not immediately known, but Dobbs had been battling cancer in recent years, according to his family.

Dobbs began his career in television in the 1970s, working as an anchor and reporter for local news stations in Arizona and California.

In 1980, he joined CNN as one of its original anchors, and quickly became one of the network's most popular personalities.

Dobbs left CNN in 1999 to join Fox News, where he hosted a popular business news show for several years.

In 2011, he launched his own show on the Fox Business Network, where he became known for his conservative commentary and his support for Trump.

Dobbs retired from television in 2021, but continued to be a vocal supporter of Trump and his policies.

He is survived by his wife, Debi, and four children.
